David Webb: Animal Audacity

David Webb is an American jeweler known for his bold and playful animal-themed jewelry . He is known for his meticulous enamel work and rich color palette.

David Webb particularly enjoyed drawing inspiration from exotic animals for his designs, such as elephants, frogs, snakes, and lions. One of his most famous animal designs is his Zebra Bracelet .

Created in 1963, it is made of enamel, diamonds, rubies, platinum and gold. The Zebra bracelet was the first David Webb design acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York .

Now David Webb's signature, the Zebra bracelet wasn't his first foray into the animal kingdom. British-American actress Elizabeth Taylor was already a fan of his emerald and gold Makara bracelet.

A loyal customer, Elizabeth Taylor even wore her personal jewelry on screen, such as her pearl necklace, matching twisted lion bracelet, and diamond and platinum earrings, in the film Ash Wednesday (1975) .

At the height of his fame, David Webb's clientele also included the First Lady of the United States, Jacqueline Kennedy , who wore his designs and commissioned official gifts for the White House.
