Fred, From Buenos Aires to Paris
Fred Samuel was born in 1908 in Argentina, into a family of Alsatian origin that traded in pearls and stones. In Paris, he trained as a jeweler and introduced the cultured pearl to France. A pearl of a particular creamy pink even takes its name. In 1936, he founded his own House.
At the start of the war he joined the Foreign Legion, was taken prisoner, managed to escape and returned to Paris to take control of his shop. The Vichy government placed the yellow star on the front of his store and forced him to remove the name “Samuel” from his sign. He then joined the resistance, and took possession of Maison Fred at the end of the war.
Renowned artists, prestigious locations, exceptional jewels, unique creations establish Fred among the ten greatest jewelers in the world. The colored diamond marks his originality, but it is the woman he never ceases to celebrate who opens the doors of the seventh art to his boutique which is now located at 14, rue de la Paix.
