Rose gold ring with sapphire and diamonds
An 18-carat rose gold ring with a round mounting, a bezel setting on top with a cabochon-cut purple sapphire—a natural stone from the mines of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, exhibiting asterism. The border is adorned with a gold cord, and on either side of the center stone, the shank and band are set with a bridge motif, each featuring a rose-cut diamond. French craftsmanship from the 1950s.
Asterism is a phenomenon that occurs naturally in certain sapphires. To reveal it, the sapphire must be cabochon-cut and must have a network of inclusions on which light reflects, creating a small star.
Height: approximately 10.3 mm, width: approximately 10.3 mm, thickness: approximately 6.6 mm, width of the ring at the base: approximately 1.6 mm.
