Red spinel daisy ring surrounded by diamonds
Old engagement ring in 18 Kt yellow gold and platinum (hallmark: eagle) whose center is decorated with a red spinel, weighing approximately 0.75 Ct, in a setting of rose-cut diamonds (Total weight of diamonds estimated at 0.20 Ct apx). French work from the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century. Gross weight: 3.43g Pattern height: 1.00 cm Finger size: 54 (diameter 17.25 / US 6.75) Condition: slight micro scratches on the gold parts, and slight oxidation on the gold and platinum parts, abrasion of the stones, missing some diamonds, see photos. The color of spinel varies from red to green to purple pink to blue. The red spinel competes with the ruby so much so that they have often been confused: did you know that the “ruby” of Prince Edward which adorns the crown of England is in fact… a spinel?
