Antique Gold and Enamel Fishtail Earrings
Large earrings called "Poissardes" in 18kt pink and yellow gold (hallmark: eagle's head and bigorne), decorated with enameled pansy flower. Breaking system, loops passing through the back. French work from the first part of the 19th century. Unidentified master's mark. Gross weight: 3.43 g Total height: 4.00 cm Width: 1.30 cm Condition: slight micro scratches and traces of solder on the gold parts, slight lack of enamel, see photos. Did you know that the name "poissardes" comes from the fish sellers who wore this type of earrings in the 19th century, but could also come from a play by Antoine-Francois Eve, known as Maillot?
