Brooch Part of a series of fourteen jewelry pieces designed by Jean Cocteau and made by Fred, a jeweler on Rue Royale, presented at the Galerie Lucie Weill on December 7, 1965.Signed, numbered and monogrammed. Emile Raton workshop hallmark (maker for Fred and Hermès, among others).Circa 1962-1965. While it's not uncommon these days for houses to be associated with artists, FRED was one of the first to shake up codes by collaborating with personalities from the visual arts. In 1962, Fred Samuel turned Jean Cocteau's poetic drawings into gold. Less than ten years later, he teamed up with Bernard Buffet to mount a butterfly on an enamelled brooch, then, in 1979, worked with Miroslav Brożek. FRED has also exhibited with Braque and Picasso!
