Although there are no precise records, it is said to have been inspired by the watch commissioned by the Pasha of Marrakech from Louis Cartier in 1931. The oldest known version, the Pasha Originale, was designed by the famous Gerald Genta in 1985. A watch that had to be elegant, its main characteristic was its resistance to water (an unusual feature for Cartier). The Pasha retained its cabochon, secured by a chain protecting the crown, and its rotating bezel.
