Françoise is always amazed to see the variations Cartier is capable of creating from a single design! The House often plays with a model’s shapes, colors, or sizes while staying true to its DNA: here’s another example of that. Cartier has managed to preserve the Santos’s geometric look and signature style, even as it transitions from a square shape to a round one.
We see the studded insert set into an 18-carat yellow gold case—the very feature that made the Santos a hit in the 1980s. For this curvaceous model, Cartier plays with symmetry by arranging the studs on the insert in a slightly uneven pattern. This reference 8191 may be more understated with its 27-mm diameter, but it remains highly original thanks to its deep, solid burgundy dial.
It is mounted on a custom-made black lizard leather Bracelet, paired with the original Cartier steel buckle.
