History

After launching the Tank Normale in 1917, the House of the Panther introduced a new model four years later: the Tank Cintrée. It features a more dynamic silhouette, a curved case, and a shape that hugs the curve of the wrist. But it retained all the characteristics of its predecessor, including its Sapphire crystal—a nod to jewelry design. Over the decades, the Tank has undergone numerous variations. The Tank Américaine was introduced in 1989. Drawing on the profile of the Tank Cintrée, its design became narrower, longer, more arched, and slightly thicker. With a slightly more prominent presence on the wrist and a Quartz movement, it is perfect as an everyday watch.

Cartier very quickly incorporated precious white metals—platinum and white gold—into its early watches. Particularly sought after by collectors for their rarity, Cartier watches in white gold have even been the subject of an entire book: *The Magical Cartier White*, which lists them all.
