History The House of Hermès was founded in 1857, but it wasn't until 1912 that the first watch was designed in the workshops of Emile Hermès. This watch, a gift for his 9-year-old daughter, already combined leather with the case. The Cape Cod model was created in 1991 by Henri d'Origny, then Artistic Director of Hermès, in collaboration with Maison Vaucher. Eight years later, Martin Margiela, head of ready-to-wear at Hermès, added a new double-wrap strap. The watch became a fashion accessory, one that complements an outfit, and for which the strap holds particular significance.
