Why did Françoise choose it?

Just like the House of Hermès, it embodies “French elegance.” Françoise simply had to include it in her selection. Everyone knows it: Hermès is a benchmark for luxury and craftsmanship. The watch collection is no exception. 

The Cape Cod is a model that particularly appeals to Françoise because its design is among the most understated in the Hermès collections: it’s not as bold as others, which lends it greater elegance and refinement. 

History

The House of Hermès was founded in 1857, but it wasn’t until 1912 that the first watch was designed in Émile Hermès’s workshops. It was a watch given to his 9-year-old daughter, which already combined leather with the case. 

The Cape Cod model was introduced in 1991 by Henri d’Origny, then Artistic Director of the House, in collaboration with the Vaucher company. Eight years later, Martin Margiela, who was in charge of the ready-to-wear line at Hermès, gave it a new double-wrap Bracelet. A watch that has become a fashion accessory—one that you pair with your outfit and for which the bracelet holds particular significance. Even today, the Cape Cod remains as popular as ever and, through its various versions, has established itself as a must-have not only for women’s wrists but also for men’s.
