VACHERON & CONSTANTIN
Jewelry watch for Chaumet Paris – 18K yellow gold 750/1000 – Diamonds – Circa 1980
Some watches tell the story of a period. This one tells the story of the collaboration between two of Europe’s greatest luxury houses.
Produced by Vacheron & Constantin for Chaumet Paris around 1980, this elegant watch dates from a period when the Geneva-based manufacturer was creating exclusive pieces for the prestigious jeweler on Place Vendôme.
At that period, Chaumet was expanding its watchmaking division by collaborating with the leading Swiss manufacturers to offer its clientele watches that combined the highest standards of fine watchmaking and fine jewelry.
Its elegant 18-carat yellow gold tonneau case is entirely set with brilliant-cut diamonds. Its clean, architectural lines are enhanced by a refined satin-finished champagne-colored dial, devoid of hour markers, simply signed “Vacheron & Constantin Genève ” and “Chaumet.”
This rare dual signature attests to the special bond between the two houses and is today particularly sought after by collectors of Vintage fine timepieces.
This watch perfectly embodies the elegance of the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the wristwatch became a true piece of jewelry without ever compromising the mechanical excellence that has earned one of the world’s most prestigious watchmakers its reputation.
It is powered by the ultra-thin, hand-wound Vacheron & Constantin K1014 caliber, derived from the famous Jaeger-LeCoultre 818, renowned for its reliability, refined construction, and exceptional thinness.
This example is in excellent condition.
The case retains its beautiful proportions, the satin-finished champagne-colored dial is perfectly preserved, and the gem-setting remains uniform and particularly brilliant.
The watch will be delivered on a new Camille Fournet alligator leather strap, complete with its 18-carat yellow gold pin buckle.
It also comes with its original Chaumet presentation box, a set that has become particularly rare more than forty years after its release.
Finally, the watch was recently inspected by the Atelier des Tocantes in Paris, a specialized watchmaker, whose checks confirmed the movement’s excellent working condition as well as its very good mechanical health.
