Très en vogue dès le milieu du 19e siècle, les boucles d'oreilles dormeuses avaient l'avantage d'avoir un crochet sécurisé par une attache et ne risquaient donc pas de se retirer pendant le repos des dames. Elles permettaient également au trou de ne pas se refermer, et ne gênaient pas pendant le sommeil.
