A rare and sublime supple bracelet with palm and rope mesh, held in place by a domed crescent that suspends a pom-pom fringed with fine columnar mesh, with a few missing pieces. The blade clasp has a safety eight. Signed Sterlé Paris, circa 1950. Pierre Sterlé (1905-1978) was famous for his innovative approach to jewelry design, embodying the design dynamics of the 1950s. He worked for many of the great jewelry houses of Place Vendôme, including Boucheron, Chaumet and Van Cleef & Arpels. His reputation was definitively established when he won the De Beers Diamond Award, a major achievement in the jewelry world, for three consecutive years in 1953, 1954 and 1955. Sterlé's success as an artist during this period brought him recognition in France as well as worldwide. He worked for many heads of state and royalty, including Queen Narriman of Egypt and Princess Soraya of Iran, and socialized with other avant-garde craftsmen in France, such as Jean Cocteau, Georges Braque and Salvador Dalí. Above all, it was Sterlé's invention of the "gold knitting technique" or "fil d'ange" that made him famous at the height of his career in the 1950s and 1960s, and our bracelet is a perfect illustration of this.
