Rare antique Cannetille rose gold sphere pendant clasp
Antique ratchet clasp in 18-carat rose gold (750), stamped with two Hallmarks. A regional Provençal French piece from the first half of the 19th century, circa 1830. It is shaped like a hollow, openwork sphere, adorned with delicate cannetille work featuring beautiful relief. Embellished with beaded decoration at each end.
This type of sentimental clasp was typically given as a wedding gift and was used in the creation of “slavery necklaces.”

Condition: Very good, with slight signs of wear: a small dent with a tiny tear in the gold along the edge, and a small hole at one end. The tongue has likely been repaired; the piece has been cleaned and polished. The clasp closes very securely and stays firmly in place without any play. This is a very rare collector’s piece, approximately 200 years old.
