Antique sleeper earrings Jais étoilé Rose gold
Magnificent pair of antique 18K (750 thousandths) solid gold sleeper earrings stamped with an eagle's head hallmark, French work. Each set with a black jet oval cabochon centered with a chased star. They are fastened by a breakaway system that slips over the back of the ear. Earring height: 1.7 cm Cabochon dimensions: 1.1 cm x 0.8 cm Total weight: 2.54 g Condition : Very good. Jewelry checked/cleaned/polished. Clasps work well. These are jewels with decor typical of their period, beautifully chased and easy to wear on a daily basis. For the record, jewels in jet (a very hard form of anthracite coal) or onyx are not necessarily mourning jewels. There were periods in 19th-century France when black clothing and jewelry were in fashion. In those days, almost all women were married in black. The fashion for white dresses is much more recent. Fast, careful dispatch in a new box with invoice (the old presentation box pictured is not part of the sale).
