Rare antique enamelled clasp Rose gold

Magnificent antique ratchet clasp in rose gold solid 18 carats (750 thousandths) stamped with an eagle's head guarantee mark. French regional work, late 19th / early 20th century. Shaped like a six-sided barrel, it is finely chased on each side with polychrome enamel: black, green, white and/or blue. Some of the designs are geometric, while others are floral. These sentimental clasps were generally offered at weddings and were used in the creation of 'slave necklaces'. Dimensions with rings: 2.3 cm x 0.8 cm Weight : 1,06 g Condition: Very good, with very light micro-scratches and small enamel chips. The clasp clips on very well and stays firmly in place with plenty of play. This is a rare and authentic piece of sentimental, collector's jewelry.
